I have just discovered my 6th great grandfather was Isaac WYKE born about 1686 in Broseley. I believe he was from a family of surgeons and was involved in setting up a Baptist church in Broseley. Did a search on this site but have not found anything so just wondering if anyone has come across the WYKE family before. If I have it right he had a son also Isaac who had a daughter Martha WYKE. Martha had a daughter Martha BACH who had a daughter Mary UNDERWOOD who had a daughter Emma MORRIS. Emma had a son John HANDLEY who was my paternal grandfather.

Hello Barbara

If you look in 'Online Databases' on the blue bar above then select 'Monumental Inscription' and enter WYKE in the search box you will find there are three grave stones in Broseley Baptist graveyard.  Because the numbers are consecutive there is a good chance (but not certainty) the people in the three graves are related to each other.

You can buy a copy of the transcript from the Society - see Shop above right.

Have you looked at the Broseley Local History Society web site?

Thank you Michael that is very useful to know. I am off to try your suggestions. Do you or anyone else  know what state the graveyard is in these days?

Dear Barbara,

I think we are very distantly related, I am descended from James/Jacob Wyke, another of Dr Isaac Wyke's sons. I have some details about the family going back a fair way.

Do get in touch for more information, I can be contacted on me@mikefraser.com

All the best,

Mike
