Does anyone have any information about Thomas HULME born about 1738 - we have drawn a blank going any further back. We believe he was married to Mary FURNIVAL

Hello William

Thomas HULME married Mary FURNIVAL at Astbury on 12 May 1759. Both of this parish, by Licence.  The Licence refers to Thomas junior and Thomas senior both of Somerford in the parish of Astbury and that the age of Thomas junior was 21 years and upwards and Mary FURNIVAL of Smallwood in the parish of Astbury was aged 20 years and upwards and they were marrying with the consent of her parents.

This tells us that Thomas HULME junior was born not later than 1738 and was the son of Thomas HULME senior and that means Thomas senior was probably born about 1710 +/- a few years.

Thomas HULME junior died on 26 Apr 1821 age 85 years and was buried on 29 Apr 1821 at Astbury, Cheshire.  If his age is quoted correctly in the burial register and on his grave stone then he was born about 1735/6.  His Will was proved at Chester on 17 Oct 1821.

I am not aware of any baptism which can be related with any certainty to Thomas HULME born 1735/6 if this date is correct.

Which of his children are you descended from?

Mike

Thank you for that - we hadn't found Thomas senior born 1710 so that takes us back another generation. My line of descent is from Thomas to James b 1772 - James b 1801 - George b 1827- John b 1858 to my mother Georgina b  1901. From George downwards the family moved to Bolton where I now live.

Have you come across the Eachus family tree as there is a connection  with James and Thomas. I was able to find some information from this source.

Hello William

I am also descended from James bap. 24 Jan 1802 at Astbury then James born 1838 (NOTE: he died Ellesmere, Shropshire and is buried at Wem, Shropshire not Cheshire as given in several online trees) then James born 1870.

You and I are third cousins.

I was aware that George moved from Cheshire to Lancashire between 1871 and 1881.
