I have just discovered that a relative of mine was at the GFS (Girls Friendly Society) Lodge in 54 Lower Brooke Street, Oswestry in 1910 aged 14/5.
I am just wondering what records might exist of this place, and whether I could find out why she was there. Her family were Londoners, and all her younger siblings were at home with parents. In 1911 she is back in London in the Leyton Infirmary as an 'Industrial Girl'.
Can anyone help?
Regards, Pam
Hi Pam
If you Google the Girls Friendly Society you will find lots of information. Look under History & there is quite a comprehensive account of the wheres and whyfors of this. Also details of their Archives. Hope this helps. Hazel
