I am researching my ancestor, who was George MANNING, under-butler at Hawkestone Hall, in the parish of Hodnet. He is listed on a census of 1871 as 38, so he was born in 1833. Can anybody help?
Whilst George MANNING gives his place of birth as Ellesmere in the 1871 census if you look at the Shropshire Baptisms on Find my Past you will find his baptism was in the Chapelry of Cockshutt on 19th Aug 1832.
This is backed up by the 1851 census when his place of birth was given as Crosemere which is part of Cockshutt.
