I recently posted on this forum asking for details about the location of my Great Great Grandfather John Cranstoun's grave in St.Leonards churchyard in Corve Street in Ludlow. John died in 1891 and I thought the chances of locating his grave would be next to impossible. I was contacted by a wonderful gentleman on this forum and thanks to his information, on the 17th feb I located his grave and have laid a bouquet of family flowers. I would like to express my sincere thanks to the gentleman called Michael J Hulme without who's fantastic information this would not have been possible.

How lovely. I have wanted to visit there for a few years to look for my Handley great grandparents but doubt I will ever be able. So pleased you went and found who you were looking for.

Hello Barbara

If you great grandparents were John (d.1913) & Emma (d.1917) HANDLEY both aged 72 when they died then their Grave No in the transcript is D.u.20. Ludlow Library hold a copy of the transcript.

The actual grave should be quite easy to find. If you enter the cemetery from Corve Street (see the entrance on Google Street View) and walk past the Chapel to the extreme back of the cemetery then your family grave is in the last row but one and about half way along it.

A good excuse for a day out in Shropshire.

Thank you Mike. I live in hope of making it there At least if I do your advice will be invaluable assuming the gravestone is still there and legible. I once tried to find their son John's grave in Wolverhampton and the graveyard was neglected and a lot of the headstones were lying face down so I had to leave disappointed.

Hello Michael,

On Monday I took a trip to Ludlow and tramped around St Leonards' churchyard looking for my great great grandparents George and Hannah MORRIS. They died in 1904 and 1907 respectively. Their last address was 71 Corve Street. It was good to see the building in Corve street but I could not find their graves. I know many are still in the undergrowth but would be grateful if you could help me in locating them.

Regards Lorlors.

Hello Lorlors

Your relatives appear in the gravestones transcript at reference C.g.16.

When you enter the cemetery from Corve Street, walk past the chapel towards the back of the cemetery.  As you go, if you look towards your left, you will reach a point where the remainder of the cemetery is narrower and then looking to your right you should see a pedestrian gate from Linney.  Draw an imaginary line between the point where the cemetery narrows and the pedestrian gate and that is where Section C starts.

There are five rows in Section C lettered d, e, f, g & h in that order as you approach them.  No 16 is fairly near the middle of the row.

Hope this helps.

Hello -   re Corve St. Cemetery, Ludlow  My GGGrandmother Margaret Ashwood is buried there 1880

but her burial is recorded in St. Laurance, Ludlow.   I would be interested to see if there is a stone.

Thanks
