I'm trying to locate Dodd Lee (or Doddlee), Alberbury. Based on 1894 burial record at Cardeston an ancestor was living at Dodd Lee at time of his death. I've looked at Google Maps but I'm unable to locate it.

My ancestor was not living there in 1891 aand his widow moved to South Wales before 1901, so I'm unable to easily search Census records to narrow down the area where it may have been. Was it a farm?

Regards

Phil

Kate Everall PRICE (amended name Kate Everall BAINES) 24 is in 1911 census as having been born in Dod Lee,  Enumerator has added Shropshire in blue. Haven't been able to find her in earlier census.

Haven't found Dod(d) Lee on OS maps of Alberbury area.

However I have just been informed that there IS a Dodlee, which is SE of Cardeston and shows on our 6" Map DVD - how did I miss that!

Cardeston was itself a Parish, parts of the township were in Alberbury parish.

Many thanks for info. I'll need to get the map.

As I don't live in Shropshire now I forgot to search Shropshire Archives on-line catalogue. Just did that and they have info on Dod Lee Farm in 1831 and also a couple of photos of a cottage near Dodlee. In both instances they give the name of Dodlee as Dodlee, Fords Heath or Dodlee, Ford.

Thanks again

Phil

If you go on an aerial mapping site, choose satellite view and follow road NE from Fords Heath as far as Far Broadway Farm (on right) opposite there is road to some farm buildings, I think this is site of Broadway hamlet, continue in same direction following wall/track? until you see two rectangular patches of scrub I think this is overgrown ruins of Dodlee. Both Dodlee and Broadway are on 1945 map and are demarked on 1830 map but not labelled.
