I am doing some family research and believe my family originated from the Shropshire area. My grandfather Joseph Davies was born in Shropshire 1876 and had four children Elsie May Parkin (born Davies) 1902, Violet Davies 1902-1908, William Henry Davies 1906-1927, Joseph Fredrick Davies 1908-?. He then moved to Middlesbrough possibly to work in the steel industry and married my grandmother Mary Davies and had my father Kenneth Davies 1921-1999. I never had any contact with my father. Not even seen a picture of him.

Research appears to show that your grandfather Joseph DAVIES moved to Middlesbrough earlier than you thought. Born in 1876 in Horsehay, Dawley, he married Mary Ellen Robson on 31st March 1902 at Saint Hilda of Whitby, Middlesbrough. Joseph was the son of Enoch DAVIES and Mary Ellen was the daughter of William ROBSON.
Joseph and Mary Ellen appear to have had 8 children rather than the 4 you mention.

Age 8 on the 1911 census.
Fanny Eliza.- Birth registered December qtr 1903 Middlesbrough district.
Birth date 30 July 1903. Baptism date 14 August 1903 in Middlesbrough.

Birth date 21 Dec 1904. Baptism date 11 Jan 1905 in Middlesbrough.

Age 4 on the 1911 census.

Joseph’s first wife Mary Ellen probably died in July 1916 in Middlesbrough district.
Joseph DAVIES then married Mary HARRISON in the December qtr 1919 in Middlesbrough district.
Your father Kenneth DAVIES was born in the September qtr 1921 in Middlesbrough district.
There are several family trees available online that include this Joseph DAVIES and his family.
With there being several similar named families in Middlesbrough at that time, you should purchase the certificates to ensure accuracy.

Hi Coulbychap, I found out that not all births are avilable on the new GRO website.
On my research I only went looking for Joseph & Mary Ellen Davies childred still living at the time of the 1911 Census which was taken on 2nd April.
I now see it stated on that census they had had 6 children in total but ony 3 had survived.
So now it looks likely that Joseph & Mary Ellen Davies could have had more than the 8 children listed below, so perhaps one or more could be missing from this list.

Hello
You say your grandfather was Joseph DAVIES born 1876 Shropshire but there are at least five possible people this could be. Do you know where in Shropshire he was born and have you found a baptism for him?
If I have read your message correctly Joseph above had a son Joseph Frederick DAVIES born 1908. If I have found the correct person he was born in Middlesbrough. Is this the correct person?
Can you please include the maiden surnames of your mother and grand mother to help sort out who is who.
