Desperately seeking any information re Mrs Marianne Childe, widow of the late William Childe of Kinlet  (he died in 1824).  Her maiden name was Hughes and she was christened in Broseley, June 13, 1779. They had two sons, Charles Frederick and William Henry.

If you are the person on ancestry you have spelt her first name incorrectly on here, but on your tree, you are spelling her as Mary Anne. I could not find her on the IGI as Marianne BUT AS YOU CAN SEE I FOUND HER AS MARY ANN HUGHS. [without the "E"] You didn't make it clear how much you have on her but presume that this is what you are after, parents and any siblings.

I did a parents search on IGI and found these siblings for Mary Ann;

1. THEOPHILUS HUGHES chr. 17 Nov 1776

2. JOHN HUGHES chr. 119 Oct 1777

3. MARY ANN HUGHES chr. 13 June 1779

4. FANNY HUGHES chr. 24 June 1787

5. JABEZ chr. 14 Dec 1789

6. EDWARD ORLANDO HUGHES chr. 3 Nov 1793

The only marriage I could find but doesn't fit with births of children is;

26 Dec 1780 St Leonard's Broseley, Shropshire,England

JOHN HUGHES and MARGARET PUGH

That may need checking though.

Hope that this has helped.

Angela

Hello again Barbara. Could you perhaps spell out what extra you lack in relation to Marianne / Mary Anne? I know that you have much on her illegitimate family by William Baldwyn, later Childe. I have noted, by the way, that his wife Annabella, nee Leighton was buried 26.1.1816 at St Julian's, Shrewsbury as Mrs Arabella Childe, of Coleham, wife of William, aged 67.

Personally I wonderer if Marianne and Mr Childe ever married. Perhaps the Mrs was honorific. Or have you found the ceremony somewhere not in IGI?

Thank you Angela, Yes she was christened as Mary Anne and I did have the details of her brothers and sisters, the mystery is in who John Hughes was as we can find no definitive details of him, Hughes seems to be nearly as difficult as Smith to trace.  We found 2 marriage that could be his but nothing definite.  We find snippets about Marianne (her name appeared with this spelling in Wlm's will) such as newspaper and letters in the Archives and I thought that maybe someone may have had further information.  Again thank you for your search.  Barb

Hello Martyn,

Thank you for your interest,  we have found the marriage of Mary Anne Hughes and William Childe at St Sepulchres, Holborn on April 20, l8l8. Witnesses were James Hemmings and Bella Hughes.

  We have recently found a newspaper advertisement for the sale of her furniture and effects following the death of Wlm Childe and mention was made of letters written pre and post the marriage.  I thought perhaps that someone in this forum may have some knowledge of her or her story.

Thank you Barbara. I am adding that marriage to a couple of tables, with acjnowledgement to you. Do you have Marianne's death? Query as Mary Ann Childe 1848 or 1858 in London area? Not seen in SFHS Burials Index. Am looking there for John and Margaret Hugh(e)s, so far without success, but Broseley before 1813 not yet covered.

I may contact you by e-mail to check if I have already sent you a "fanning-out" table for William Childe's ancestry. By the way, Denise and Eddie Childe have nothing really to assist you.

Thank you Martin, we have the following information:  Mary Ann Childe married James Hemmings June 10, l837 by licence (he was a witness to her marriage to Wlm Childe).  Mary Anne died at Cheltenham in June, l850, she was buried at Cheltenham  Chapel.

We have searched without success for details of John Hughes.  Thank you for asking Mr & Mrs Childe.  I had thought there may be some papers within the family pertaining to her situation.

Cheers, Barbara
