Peter Francis is an author and historian. He has written a variety of books including ‘A Matter of Life and Death: the Secrets of Shrewsbury Cemetery’ and this will be the subject of his presentation. He will cover the history and architecture of the cemetery but also the stories of some of the fascinating people who lie buried there. They include well-known names such as author and poet Mary Webb and record-breaking footballer Arthur Rowley but also many whose lives are now largely forgotten but who achieved wonderful things, lived colourful lives, died in tragic circumstances or gave their lives so that others could live. Through them can be woven the history of the town itself.
