**** CANCELLED **** Monthly talk - Karen Evans: The ultimate black sheep

The SFHS Committee have decided to cancel the meeting of the Society that was due to take place on Tuesday 21st April at the Cross Houses Venue.

In light of the latest Government advice on gatherings the Committee have regrettably taken the decision to cancel this talk as they feel that the health and well-being of members must be their priority. 

The Committee wish you well and hope that normal service will be resumed as soon as possible!

Updates on our future activities will be shared, when available, on the SFHS website and via social media.

The SFHS Committee have decided to cancel the Annual Fair that was due to take place on Saturday 06th June at the Shirehall in Shrewsbury.

In light of the latest Government advice about gatherings, the Committee have regrettably taken the decision to cancel the Fair as they feel that the health and well-being of members must be their priority.

Monthly talk - Brian Atkins: A Postal History of Shropshire

Brian will join us to take a fascinating look at the history of the postal service from the reign of Henry VIII up to the present day with lots of illustrations and artefacts on display from his collection.

Doors open at 19:00 when there will be an opportunity to browse bookstalls, look at Shropshire parish records and seek advice from the team if you have any questions hampering your research. The talk will commence at 19:30 after which tea and coffee will be available.

 

Monthly talk - David Thorneycroft: D Day 75 years on

David will join us to talk about the D Day experiences of four Shropshire soldiers who landed on Sword Beach, including his father in the rifle company of the KSLI.

Monthly talk - Janet Mackleston: Rev Edward Muckleston 1819 to 1913

Janet will join us to talk about her ancestor, a clergyman of questionable character. Janet describes how she researched her ancestor using historic newspaper archives and gives hints and tips, with handouts, on how to use newspapers to research the most mundane of ancestors.
